Kentucky’s insurance code now includes optional Family Leave as a new form of insurance.

Kentucky passed a bill allowing insurance companies to file Family Leave Insurance (FLI) policies in the state. Carriers may begin filing their non-mandatory FLI policy forms as of April 5, 2024.
 

Key Dates

April 5, 2024: Once the policy is approved, insurance carriers can begin offering FLI to employers in Kentucky on an optional basis.

No, this is not a mandatory program. Kentucky’s insurance code now allows insurance carriers to offer Family Leave Insurance coverage in Kentucky on an optional basis.
Coverage may be offered to employees for the following leave reasons:
  • To care for a family member with a serious health condition
  • To bond with a child during the first 12 months after the child's birth, adoption or placement for foster care
  • For a military exigency or to care for a military or first responder family member who is injured in the line of duty
