Does My Youth Sports Program Need Insurance?

Children gain many benefits from playing on sports teams, yet the risk of an accident is always present. Whether it’s a brace for a twisted knee, bandages for stitches or even more serious injuries, the costs of sports injuries can be significant. Our Youth Spots Insurance helps protect children who play on teams or recreation leagues. A youth sports insurance policy from The Hartford can help pay for medical care and treatment of injuries from a covered sports accident. A covered accident could take place:
  • While participating in a scheduled game, official tournament or practice session as a member of a team
  • While traveling directly to or from such game or practice session

Who Is Eligible for Youth Sports Insurance?

Any organization engaged principally in the play or practice of sports with participants up to age 18 is eligible for youth sports insurance from The Hartford. Under certain conditions, we may consider writing coverage for participants age 19 and older. If you have a group that falls into this category, please contact your insurance agent or local representative at The Hartford for additional information.

Who Is Covered Under a Youth Sports Insurance Policy?

All players on the insured team are covered under our youth sports insurance policy and must be enrolled and reported when determining the policy premium. Policyholders also have the option to include youth sports insurance coverage for the following individuals:
  • Managers and coaches
  • Bat boys, equipment managers, ball boys, scorekeepers, trainers and volunteer workers on a team or league basis
  • Umpires and referees, as long as all teams in a league are insured
  • Members of the policyholder participating in team sponsored and supervised activities and while traveling to and from such activities

What Does Youth Sports Insurance Cover?

Our youth sports insurance includes key coverages, such as:

Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance

Our accidental death & dismemberment insurance helps provide benefits to youth sports players and beneficiaries in the event of an unforeseeable and disabling accident. Our accident insurance for youth sports organizations provides the maximum benefit selected for loss of life from a covered accident.

Accidental medical expense insurance (AME) from The Hartford can help cover medical costs to treat injuries caused by a covered accident. For example, if a team member is injured while playing a youth soccer game, our accident insurance can help pay for the medical expenses related to their treatment.
