General Counsel
Don Hunt is general counsel, a role he assumed on March 1, 2024. In this capacity, Hunt oversees The Hartford’s law, compliance, sustainability, and government and industry relations functions.
Prior to becoming general counsel, Hunt served as senior vice president, deputy general counsel and corporate secretary. Hunt joined The Hartford in 2007, serving in a series of roles of increasing responsibility in which he led legal teams responsible for securities and corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, investments, employment and employee benefits, intellectual property and privacy. He regularly advises The Hartford’s Board of Directors and management team on a wide variety of critical matters, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, shareholder activism and disclosure issues.
Before joining The Hartford, Hunt was a senior attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporation Finance. Prior to that he practiced corporate law at two AmLaw 100 firms: Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in Washington, D.C., advising issuers and investment banks on corporate governance matters, initial public offerings, and other public and private equity and debt offerings.
Hunt currently serves on the Board of Directors of The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform. He previously served on the boards of Journey Home CT and Riverfront Recapture in Hartford.
Hunt received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Middlebury College and earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America.
